Frequently asked questions

What Shopify analytics does Nuso provide beyond the native Shopify dashboard?

Nuso goes significantly further than Shopify's built-in reports by combining six tightly integrated dashboards — Overview, Customers, Products, Finance, Marketing, and Inventory — into a single real-time view. Where Shopify's analytics gives you surface-level order counts and revenue figures, Nuso layers in customer cohort retention, product-level contribution margin, blended MER, and inventory health, all updated live as orders arrive. You also get 31 pre-built reports covering everything from first-purchase SKU mix to repeat purchase intervals, with no exports or spreadsheets required. For brands doing more than £10k/month, these deeper metrics are the difference between reacting to yesterday's data and making proactive decisions today.

How does customer cohort retention analysis work?

Cohort retention analysis groups customers by the month they made their first purchase, then tracks how many of them return to buy again in each subsequent month. In Nuso, each cohort appears as a row in a heatmap table — the darker the cell, the stronger the retention rate for that period. For example, a January cohort with 40% retention in month 3 means 40 out of every 100 customers who first bought in January placed a third order by March. This view is essential for understanding true customer lifetime value, diagnosing seasonal drop-off patterns, and identifying which acquisition channels bring in genuinely loyal customers versus one-time buyers.

Can I see profit and loss in Nuso, not just revenue?

Yes. Nuso's Finance dashboard surfaces gross profit alongside revenue by pulling in your product cost-of-goods data from Shopify and factoring in refunds, discounts, and shipping. You can see gross margin at the order level, the product level, and rolled up by day, week, or month. While Nuso does not currently replace a full accounting package like Xero or QuickBooks, it gives you a real-time P&L view specifically for your Shopify trading activity — including contribution margin per SKU — that most accountancy tools cannot produce without a manual monthly export.

How often does Nuso sync data from Shopify?

Nuso syncs order, product, and customer data from the Shopify API on a continuous basis, with new orders typically appearing in the dashboard within 60 seconds of being placed. Historical data is backfilled on first connection, which usually completes within a few minutes for stores with up to 100,000 orders. Daily stats — such as rolling LTV and cohort tables — are recalculated overnight to incorporate any refunds or order edits made during the day, so the figures you see in the morning always reflect a fully reconciled view of the previous day.

Does Nuso work with multiple Shopify stores?

Yes, Nuso is built multi-store from the ground up. You can connect multiple Shopify stores under a single organisation and switch between them instantly from the top navigation bar. Each store's data is kept in a separate schema in the database, so there is no risk of data cross-contamination. For brand groups or agencies managing several DTC brands, this means you can compare performance across stores, monitor all stores from a single login, and switch context in one click without re-authenticating.

What is the difference between LTV and AOV in e-commerce analytics?

Average Order Value (AOV) is the mean revenue per transaction and is calculated simply as total revenue divided by total number of orders. Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) is a broader metric that measures the total revenue — or profit — a customer is expected to generate across all of their purchases over their relationship with your brand. A store can have a high AOV but poor LTV if customers never repurchase; conversely, a subscription-style brand might have a modest AOV but exceptional LTV because customers order every month for years. In Nuso, both metrics are tracked side by side and broken down by acquisition channel, product, and cohort, so you can understand not just how much each order is worth but how much each customer relationship is worth.

Can I build custom reports in Nuso?

Nuso ships with 31 pre-built reports covering the most critical analytics questions for Shopify brands — from new vs. returning revenue split to SKU-level repurchase rates — and these cover the vast majority of use cases out of the box. Custom report building via a drag-and-drop interface is on the product roadmap for later in 2025. In the meantime, all underlying data is accessible via direct database export for users who need to build bespoke analysis in tools like Looker Studio, Excel, or Python. If you have a specific reporting need not covered by the standard dashboards, reach out and the team can often surface it as a new built-in report.
